Rubio accuses South African ambassador of being a 'race-baiting politician' over Trump comments
The ambassador also claimed Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement was a white supremacist movement sparked out of the increasing diversity in the United States.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday announced that South African ambassador to the U.S. Ebrahim Rasool is unwelcomed in the United States, after he accused President Donald Trump of leading a global white supremacist movement.
Rasool's comments occurred during a foreign policy seminar on Friday in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was trying to explain Trump’s recent stance against South Africa’s property expropriation legislation, per Breitbart.
The ambassador also claimed Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement was a white supremacist movement sparked out of the increasing diversity in the United States.
The sentiments sparked backlash from Rubio, who claimed that Rasool was considered "persona non grata," because he was a "race-baiting politician" who hated Trump.
"South Africa's Ambassador to the United States is no longer welcome in our great country," Rubio posted on X. "Ebrahim Rasool is a race-baiting politician who hates America and hates [POTUS]. We have nothing to discuss with him and so he is considered PERSONA NON GRATA."
The exchange comes after Trump signed an executive order in early February to pause aid to South Africa. Rubio also recently decided to skip the G20 summit in South Africa later this year, because of tension between the two countries.
