Concerns about the economy are driving young voters away from Biden: poll
As of now, President Biden has a 41% approval rating and a 51% disapproval rating.
A recent poll shows that voters under the age of 30 are moving away from President Joe Biden over rising inflation and the state of the economy.
The poll conducted by Emerson College shows that 38% of young voters' top issue is the economy. Fifteen percent said "threats to democracy" are their main concern and 11% said immigration is their top issue.
When those under 30 were polled, they were asked an open-ended question on what concerns them most going into 2024 and they used words such as "inflation," "economy" and "money."
"The financial concerns and emotional strain among younger voters regarding the cost of living are influencing their perception of President Biden’s leadership," Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling, said. "Some are losing confidence, not necessarily shifting to Trump, but exploring third-party options.”
As of now, President Biden has a 41% approval rating and a 51% disapproval rating.
His approval rating among voters between 18 and 24 is at 35%, but it increases to 41% for voters between the ages of 25 and 29.
The survey was conducted from Dec. 4-6 in which 1,000 people were polled. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.
