U.S. airlines discussing $50 billion aid package from government

U.S. Airline companies have begun conversations with the government about a financial assistance package of as much as $50 billion.

Airlines around the globe have been paralyzed as the worldwide demand for travel has plummeted, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Three major U.S. carriers — United, Delta, and American — have announced severe cuts in their flight schedules, as well as hiring freezes, and the furloughing of some employees.

Still being discussed is the exact form this aid package will take — options could include cash grants, relief from select taxes and fees, and government-backed loans.
