The separation comes after reports earlier in the day indicated that Amazon intended to show website shoppers the additional costs of Trump's tariffs on merchandise. The online retailer has denied the reports.

Rasner Media CEO Reid Rasner on Tuesday announced that the company has formally parted ways with Amazon and its founder Jeff Bezos in its bid to purchase the controversial social media platform TikTok.

Rasner Media made a $47.45 billion offer to buy TikTok earlier this month as the future of the app in the United States remains in limbo over national security concerns. President Donald Trump has voiced support for the app.

The separation comes after reports earlier in the day indicated that Amazon intended to show website shoppers the additional costs of Trump's tariffs on merchandise. The online retailer has denied the reports.

The company said the decision to part with Amazon comes as the retailer is allegedly "cozying up" to the Chinese government.

“We will not accept phone calls from Jeff Bezos or his representatives at Amazon until they choose America over China. Period,” Rasner said in a statement. “Amazon’s leadership chose political games and communist propaganda over the American people—and Rasner Media refuses to reward that betrayal of our nation and President Trump.

"When we launch our newly imagined TikTok shop, Amazon’s customers are about to find out who their real champion is—and it’s not Xi-Jing-Jeff. It’s Rasner Media," he added.

An Amazon spokesperson has denied a broader company plan to list the impact of Trump's tariffs, per Reuters, but said the team running the online retailer's ultra-low-cost Amazon Haul store has "considered the idea" of listing import charges on certain products.
