Marianne Williamson becomes latest candidate to launch bid for DNC chairwoman
Williamson ran for president as a Democrat in 2020 and in 2024 unsuccessfully.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson announced Thursday that she would be running for chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.
"This year, the party faces a more critical problem than we have ever faced before," Williamson wrote on her Substack. "The MAGA phenomenon now challenges the very way that politics are done in America, and the traditional tool kit of party organizing will not be enough to meet the moment."
Several candidates have already announced or hinted at a bid to replace the current DNC Chairman Jamie Harrison who has had the position since 2021 and likely won't run again, according to The Hill.
Following the Democrats' overall loss in 2024, the party is attempting to re-examine their strategy for the midterm elections.
"We need to understand it to create the energy to counter it," Williamson's Substack post reads. "MAGA is a distinctly 21st century political movement and it will not be defeated by a 20th century tool kit. Data analysis, fundraising, field organizing, and beefed-up technology – while all are important - will not be enough to prepare the way for Democratic victory in 2024 and beyond."
