At least three people were injured Wednesday night during a shooting and altercation at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona.

Police say two people were shot and one person who was stabbed.

Police officers reportedly responded to gunfire at about 9:45 p.m. at a restaurant outside of a security checkpoint and arrived to find one man and a woman with gunshot wounds and another man stabbed. All three were hospitalized, with the woman suffering life-threatening injuries.

The woman was as of Thursday still in critical condition, according to the Associated Press. The incident is believed to have been a family dispute, which began as a physical altercation that escalated when a man pulled a gun. The man then shot the woman and the other man. The male shooting victim used a knife to stab the shooter.

“I do believe that this was a family dispute that escalated,” Phoenix police Sgt. Mayra Reeson told reporters. “Of course this was scary, this was Christmas evening, everybody’s trying to get home."

Phoenix police said they also apprehended another man and a female minor at a parking garage at the airport, following the gunfire. It is not clear what the family was doing at the airport.

The incident led to the temporary closure of the security checkpoint, the closure of some restaurants and a pause in service at the terminal’s PHX Sky Train station. But the airport has since returned to normal.

The Phoenix airport is considered one of the largest commercial airports in the U.S., and is a hub for American Airlines, Frontier, and Southwest.
