The White House on Friday unveiled a new website that appears to officially endorse the theory that the COVID-19 pandemic was caused by a lab leak in Wuhan, China.

The website, which initially featured information about vaccines, testing, and treatment for the virus, largely echoes the conclusions reached by Republicans on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic last year.

Health officials under the Biden administration previously stated that they could not determine what caused the pandemic, which prompted much of the world to lock down, but that it could have originated in a lab or from nature. If it was natural, the theory is that it was transmitted to humans from animals in China.

The Biden administration's State and Energy departments, and the CIA, previously concluded that the lab theory was "likely" but did not have strong confidence in that conclusion, per CNN.

The revamped website counters this argument, stating the virus "possesses a biological characteristic that is not found in nature," and that researchers at the Wuhan lab in 2019 were "sick with COVID-like symptoms" months before it transferred to the global population.

"Data shows that all COVID-19 cases stem from a single introduction into humans," the website claimed. "This runs contrary to previous pandemics where there were multiple spillover events."

It also stated: "By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin it would have already surfaced. But it hasn’t."

The new COVID website also alleges there were failures in the U.S. response to the virus, including forcing the public to remain home in a lockdown, and mandating that people wear masks and social distance in public.

It additionally criticized the Biden administration's Department of Health and Human Services' obstruction of a congressional investigation into the pandemic, and criticized former President Joe Biden for pardoning former National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci.
