The Trump administration announced Friday that it has started releasing documents about the assassination of former Attorney General and Democratic Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. 

"Nearly 60 years after the tragic assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the American people will, for the first time, have the opportunity to review the federal government’s investigation thanks to @POTUS leadership and commitment to maximum transparency," Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard wrote on the social media platform, X.

Gabbard said the documents will have some redactions, so Social Security numbers wouldn't get leaked. 

Kennedy was assassinated in 1968, and the 10,000 records being released Friday were previously declassified.

Kennedy's son, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has said the convicted assassin of his father, Sirhan Sirhan, may be innocent, according to CBS News.

President Donald Trump earlier this year ordered the declassification of assassination records related to President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.
