Biden denounces Russia's Christmas Day attack on Ukraine's electricity grid as 'outrageous'

On Christmas Day, Russia launched an attack on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine.

President Joe Biden on Wedneday denounced Russia's attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Christmas Day as "outrageous." 

“The purpose of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity during winter and to jeopardize the safety of its grid,” Biden said, according to The Hill newspaper. “Let me be clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety, and the United States and the international community must continue to stand with Ukraine until it triumphs over Russia’s aggression."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack was "inhumane."

"Over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than a hundred attack drones," he wrote on the social media platform, X. "The targets are our energy infrastructure. They continue to fight for a blackout in Ukraine."

The attack on Ukraine's grid is party Russia's invasion of the neighboring country at began in February 2024.
