National Security Advisor Waltz says Ukraine will sign a minerals deal
The Trump administration proposed a deal that would allow the U.S. to get access to rare earth mineral deposits in Ukraine which Zelensky rejected, but it wasn't completely ruled out.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said Friday that Ukrainian President President Volodymyr Zelensky will sign a deal for the U.S. to get access to Ukraine's minerals.
“President Zelensky is going to sign that deal,” Waltz said at the Conservative Political Action Conference. “What better could you have for Ukraine than economic partnership with the United States?”

President Donald Trump recently presented Zelensky with an "improved" minerals deal after the first offer was rejected, sources told the Axios outlet.
This deal comes amid the Trump administration's efforts to try to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Waltz said the administration's goal was to end the war. Earlier this week, he and other U.S. officials went to Saudi Arabia to meet with Russian officials to discuss potential ideas to end the war.
“It was Zelensky last September as part of his victory plan.....it was Zelensky that proposed, 'hey, let’s go into partnership together,” Waltz said.
