Senate passes 2025 budget resolution, House to vote on its version as early as next week
The Senate vote was 52-48 with Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul the only Republican senator to oppose the measure.
The Republican-led Senate early Friday morning passed a roughly $340 billion budget resolution that includes $175 billion for border operations and immigration enforcement as well as $150 billion in defense spending to carry out President Trump’s agenda.
The resolution, brought forth by South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham, also includes domestic energy incentives.
The vote was 52-48 with Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul the only Republican senator to oppose the measure.
The bill does not include an extension of Trump's 2017 tax cuts that are included in the GOP-led House's version.
The House could vote on its version, which President Trump prefers, as early as next week.
After the House version is passed, negotiators from each chamber will meet to try to draft on compromise version that Congress can pass and Trump can sign. They have until March 14 to get a final bill to Trump's desk before the federal government runs out of money to keep it fully operational past March 14.
