White House confirms new tariffs on Mexico, Canada will begin Saturday
The tariffs placed on Canada and Mexico will be at 25%.
The White House confirmed Friday that new tariffs will be placed on Mexico and Canada beginning Saturday.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the move, saying it comports with "the February 1 deadline President Trump put into place with a statement several weeks ago."
The 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico is something that Trump said would happen earlier this week.
During the press conference, Leavitt said that there also would be a 10% tariff on China due to its role in the fentanyl crisis in the U.S., according to CNN.
She said that these tariffs are another promise fulfilled by Trump.
Trump plan to impose tariffs are amid his frustration with the Canada and Mexico's border polices, according to the British Broadcast Corporation.
