Chuck Todd leaves NBC News after nearly two decades with the network
Todd joined NBC in 2007, and served as the host of "Meet the Press" from 2014 to 2023. His exit follows CNN's Jim Acosta's leaving his network and Neil Cavuto departing Fox News.
Former NBC "Meet The Press" host Chuck Todd told employees at NBC News on Friday that it was his last day at the network, making him the latest mainstay to leave a major news outlet after more than a decade in the job.
Todd's exit comes as trust in the news media is low, and follows CNN's Jim Acosta's departure from his network earlier this week, and Neil Cavuto leaving Fox News after 28 years last month.
Todd said he would still host his podcast and was interested in new projects, but did not offer any further details on what is coming next for his career. Todd joined NBC in 2007, and served as the host of "Meet the Press" from 2014 to 2023.
The former host told his colleagues in a memo shared with the Associated Press that the news industry needed to win back the trust of the public, and that he believed doing so would come from having relationships and partnerships with local outlets. He also claimed that winning back support had to focus on reporting only the news, instead of using a network for activism or to gain popularity.
“National media can’t win trust back without having a robust partner locally and trying to game algorithms is no way to inform and report,” Todd wrote. “People are craving community and that’s something national media or the major social media companies can’t do as well as local media.”
NBC confirmed Todd's exit in a statement to CNN, where it praised the former host's legacy at the network.
“We’re grateful for Chuck’s many contributions to our political coverage during his nearly two-decade career at NBC News and for his deep commitment to ‘Meet the Press’ and its enduring legacy," the network said. "We wish him all the best in his next endeavors.”
