AP claims White House has not complied with court order allowing reporters back in Oval Office

The order lifting the ban went into effect on Sunday, but the first day that AP reporters were expected to be allowed in the Oval Office, Air Force One, and other key areas was Monday.

The Associated Press on Monday said that its reporters were still blocked from attending an event in the Oval Office, despite a court order last week that required the administration to let the outlet in.

U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden ruled last week that the Trump administration's ban on Associated Press reporters accessing key areas of the White House violated the First Amendment, because it was directly punishing a publication for its editorial decisions. The AP was banned after it refused to change its style guide to rename the Gulf of Mexico as Gulf of America.

The order lifting the ban went into effect on Sunday, but the first day that AP reporters were expected to be allowed in the Oval Office, Air Force One, and other key areas was Monday.

“Our journalists were blocked from the Oval Office today,” a spokesperson for the wire service said. “We expect the White House to restore AP’s participation in the pool as of today, as provided in the injunction order.”

The outlet said a journalist and photographer were barred from attending an Oval Office news conference with President Donald Trump and El Salvador President Nayib Bukele.

The administration is currently appealing the court ruling, and the next hearing on the matter is scheduled for Thursday.
