Trump's 25% tariffs on Canada, Mexico set to take effect Saturday
"We’ll be announcing the tariffs on Canada and Mexico for a number of reasons,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico are set to go into effect Saturday.
Trump on Thursday confirmed his early-administration plan to impose the taxes, amid his frustration with the country's border polices, according to the British Broadcast Corporation.
"We’ll be announcing the tariffs on Canada and Mexico for a number of reasons,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
One of the reasons he gave was that there were "massive subsidies" the U.S. has given to Canada and to Mexico in the form of deficits.
He also added that the drugs coming into the U.S. and massive immigration were two other reasons.
Trump also said the tariffs "may or may not rise with time," according to international media.
