The Senate on Thursday voted to advance Kash Patel's nomination to lead the FBI, setting up a final voted expected to take place later on Thursday.

Clearing the procedural hurdle set a limit on remaining debate and came largely on party lines, with 51 voting in favor and 47 voting against.

A final vote is expected around 1:45 p.m.

Patel ranked among the most contentious of Trump Cabinet nominees, along with Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The latter two secured confirmation already, making Patel the last of the trio awaiting final confirmation.
