The CNN poll, which was conducted over the weekend, found that 56% of survey takers believed Trump will do a "very" or "fairly" good job as president, while 43% believe he will do a "very" or "fairly" poor job. Approximately 1% did not have an opinion.
Thursday's numbers are a two percent increase from the same poll in December, where 54% said they believe Trump will do a "very" or "fairly" good job, and 46% said he would do a poor job.
More than half the respondents (55%) also said they approve Trump's handling of the transition between administrations, while 45% disapprove, and 25% of respondents said Trump's recent statements have made them more confident in his ability to serve as commander in chief, while 38% said his recent comments have made them less confident, and 37% said it did not impact their opinion.
The poll also found that 53% believe that a Republican trifecta of the White House and both chambers of Congress is "bad" for the country. But 56% said they believe economic conditions in the country will either be somewhat or very good a year from now.
Respondents additionally believe it is likely that Trump will impose tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico, and implement his plan for mass deportations. They also believe it is likely he will close the southern border.
The survey, which was done by SSRS, polled 1,205 adults in the U.S., and had a 3.2% margin of error.
