Two polls show majority of Americans have unfavorable view of Musk
The poll shows that 54% of those surveyed have an unfavorable view of Musk while 42% have a favorable view of him.
Most Americans have an unfavorable view of tech billionaire and top Trump administration employee Elon Musk, according to two new polls.
A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows 55% of voters think Musk has too much authority in the administration, while 36% say he has the right amount of power.
Among Republican voters, 78% think he has about the right amount of power and 16% think he has too much.
Musk, considered the world's most wealthy person, is the owner and founder of the Tesla electric vehicle company and the private space exploration company SpaceX.
He was appointed by President Trump to lead the administration's Department of Government Efficiency.
Musk says his cost-saving efforts at federal agencies in just the first month of operation has saved taxpayers $55 billion in federal funds.
DOGE this week posted on its website a list of over 1,000 federal contracts it says it has terminated, in addition to additional cuts it says it's made through such efforts as fraud detection, asset sales, grant cancellations and workforce reductions, according to ABC News.
In the Quinnipiac poll, 96% of respondents who are Democrat voters thought Musk has too much power and 1% thought he has about the right amount of power.
Another poll, from the Pew Research Center also released Wednesday, found 54% of Americans surveyed have an unfavorable view of Musk while 42% have a favorable view of him.
The poll also showed that those who identified as Republicans favored Musk more than those who were Democrats.
The survey was conducted between Jan. 27 and Feb. 2.
