Biden and Trump are tied for 2024 election, even with third party candidates: Poll
“In a country at odds over wars and the economy, abortion, immigration and the very survival of democracy, there is one current point of agreement: there’s no daylight between the candidates. It’s a tie,” Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a statement.
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are deadlocked in a nationwide poll released Wednesday, even after third party candidates were added as options.
The Quinnipiac University poll found that Trump and Biden were tied at 46% each among registered voters, when they were the only options. But when the options expanded to include independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein, then the main party candidates were tied at 37% respectively.
“In a country at odds over wars and the economy, abortion, immigration and the very survival of democracy, there is one current point of agreement: there’s no daylight between the candidates. It’s a tie,” Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a statement.
Although Trump and Biden are tied in the poll, the survey found that Trump had higher favorability than Biden. Though only 41% of respondents said they had a favorable view of Trump, just 37% said they had a favorable opinion of Biden.
For Kennedy, 31% of registered voters said they had a favorable opinion of him, and 35% said they had an unfavorable opinion. Another third – 33% – said they had not heard enough about him. Both parties have expressed fear that Kennedy will serve as a spoiler candidate for their nominee.
The survey was conducted from April 18-22 and polled 1,429 registered voters nationwide. The margin of error for the poll was +/- 2.6 percentage points.
