Tennessee Republican Rep. Mark Green does not plan to seek reelection in 2024, marking the latest Republican committee chairman to make such a decision.

"At the start of the 188th Congress, I promised my constituents to pass legislation to secure the borders and to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable," he said in a statement obtained by Punchbowl News. "Today, with the House having passed H.R. 2 and Secretary Mayorkas impeached, it is time for me to return home."

"In the last few months, in reading the writings of our Framers, I was reminded of their intent for representatives to be citizen-legislators, to serve for a season and then return home," he went on. "Our country–and our Congress–is broken beyond most means of repair. I have come to realize our fight is not here within Washington, our fight is with Washington. As I have done my entire life, I will continue serving this country–but in a new capacity."

Green currently serves as the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and is in his first term in the post. His decision makes him the fourth GOP Committee chair to seek the exit this term. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers announced her retirement earlier this month.

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry announced his retirement in December while House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Kay Granger did so in November.
