Dow gains more than 550 points, more than compensating for Monday's losses

The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Tuesday closed 558.99 points higher, climbing more than enough to recover from Monday's more than 300 point decline. 

The S&P 500 on Tuesday rose 3.1 percent and the Nasdaq gained almost 4 percent. 

While the Dow and the S&P posted losses on Monday, the Nasdaq rose slightly, making Tuesday the Nasdaq's fourth consecutive day of gains.

While the coronavirus pandemic has hit businesses hard, there are hopes that the situation is turning around and the country will be able to resume more normal activity soon.
