Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk revealed Tuesday he was already going to endorse President Donald Trump last year, but that the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania sped up the announcement.

Trump survived two assassination attempts on the campaign trail last year, with the most significant one occurring in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, when a bullet grazed the president's ear.

Trump has received accolades for his response to the shooting, where he stood up and held a fist in the air to show he survived.

Musk endorsed Trump shortly after the assassination attempt.

"I was going to do it anyway," Musk told Fox News anchor Sean Hannity in a sit-down with Trump on Tuesday.

"That was it?" Hannity responded.

"That was a precipitating event," Musk said.

Trump then chimed in that he did not know the assassination attempt had any impact on the endorsement timeline.

"That sped it up a little bit?" Trump then said to Musk. "I didn’t know that."

"It sped it up, but I was going to do it anyway," Musk insisted.

Pennsylvania's Democratic Sen. John Fetterman said in October that he believes Musk's endorsement was a major blow to former Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign, because he was an attractive person to voters. Trump went on to defeat Harris in November by winning all seven swing states.
