Nicole makes landfall in Florida as rare Atlantic hurricane in November
The storm made landfall south of Vero Beach at about 3 a.m.
Hurricane Nicole made landfall early Thursday morning on Florida's central Atlantic coast, resulting in power outages and heavy, damaging surf.
The storm made landfall south of Vero Beach at about 3 a.m. on North Hutchinson Island, with sustained winds of about 75 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
However, the storm weekend about an hour later into a tropical storm as it made its way over east-central Florida, according to NBC news.
Roughly 384,000 customers were without electricity in the state as of 10:15 a.m. ET, according to the outage-tracking website poweroutage.us.
Though the storm has weekend, a dangerous storm surge is still expected along parts of the east-central and the northeastern coasts of Florida, along with parts of coastal Georgia
