Thomas Massie issues last-minute endorsement for Donald Trump
Massie, who has served in the House for six terms, said Trump's commitment to the country has earned his endorsement, and encouraged Independent and Libertarian voters to vote for the former president next month.
Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie on Friday gave a last minute endorsement to former President Donald Trump, which comes less than two weeks before the November election.
Massie and Trump have had a tumultuous relationship over the years. Massie endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis during the Republican primaries until he suspended his campaign, and then switched his support to the former president.
Trump has also called for Massie's ousting from the GOP in the past, but eventually endorsed him in 2022.
Massie, who has served in the House for six terms, said Trump's commitment to the country has earned his endorsement, and encouraged Independent and Libertarian voters to vote for the former president next month.
"Donald Trump will put Americans first by securing our liberties and home and preventing needless wars abroad," Massie said in a statement posted to X. "He will Make American Healthy Again by empowering small farmers and taking on special interests that have corrupted our healthcare system. He has even committed to freeing Ross Ulbricht, who was wrongfully sentenced."
Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison in 2015, for creating the darknet marketplace Silk Road. The marketplace predominantly uses Bitcoin as its main currency, and Ulbricht was convicted of distributing narcotics and running a criminal enterprise. His case has been cited as an example of government overreach, according to Newsmax.
"For these and many other reasons, [Trump] has my full endorsement," Massie said. "I encourage conservatives, as well as independents and libertarians, to join me in voting for Donald J. Trump for President."
