Pop star and actress Selena Gomez has deleted a video of herself crying about President Trump's new immigration policy that includes more aggressive deportation of illegal migrants, amid online backlash.

She deleted the online video Monday shortly after posting it and the largely conservative backlash began, according to multiple news reports

"All my people are getting attacked, the children," Gomez, who was born in 1992 in Texas and whose father is of Mexican descent," said in the original video. "I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise."

Turning Point USA and Turning Point Action founder Charlie Kirk wrote on the social media platform X, "'My people?' Aren't you American? Where was the sobbing over the 100,000 Americans dead from fentanyl poisoning? Where were these tears over the 340,000 children who went missing after being trafficked over our border?"

Gomez has responded to the criticism in new social media post that in part reads: "Apparently, it's not ok to show empathy for people."
