House approves budget resolution in narrow 216-214 vote
The budget resolution is critical to advancing President Trump’s legislative agenda on the southern border, tax cuts and energy policy.
The House on Thursday passed a budget resolution after delaying an earlier vote to lock up GOP support.
The resolution passed in a 216-214 vote.
Republican Reps. Thomas Massie, Ky., and Victoria Spartz, Ind., voted against the resolution.
The budget resolution is critical to advancing President Trump’s legislative agenda on the southern border, tax cuts and energy policy, as it allows Republicans to avoid a Senate filibuster by Democrats.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said during a press conference Thursday morning that he had the votes in order to move Trump's agenda forward.
President Donald Trump praised the passage of the bill on TRUTH Social.
"Congratulations to the House on the passage of a Bill that sets the stage for one of the Greatest and Most Important Signings in the History of our Country," he wrote. "Among many other things, it will be the Largest Tax and Regulation Cuts ever even contemplated. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
