Law enforcement officials confirmed Thursday afternoon that two people were killed and five were injured in a Florida State University shooting that took place earlier in the day. The alleged shooter was the 20-year-old son of a longtime sheriff's deputy. 

On Wednesday, a 17-year-old, who was let into a locked door of a school in Dallas by a student, shot 4 people. In both cases, the shooters were caught and being held by police, while no motive for either incident has been reported. 

There have been 6 school shootings this year that resulted in injuries or deaths, according to an Education Week analysis. There have been 227 such shootings since 2018. There were 39 school shootings with injuries or deaths last year.
