New York police still looking for primary suspect in attack on top chief, officers

The New York City Police Department on Thursday was reportedly still looking for a primary suspect in the attack a day earlier on Chief Terence Monahan and several other uniformed police.

Mohahan, the city’s top uniformed police officer, had his face bloodied and finger broken in the incident Wednesday on the Brooklyn Bridge, in which police were reportedly trying to make an arrest amid protests and counter-protests. 

The NYPD has released photos and a video of the suspect, seen on the bridge hitting police with a cane.

“The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance identifying the following individual in the attached photos and video wanted for questioning in regard to an assault on police officers in the confines of the 5th Precinct,” police said in a release.

Police say at least 37 other people have been arrested in the incident, in which one group was reportedly led by religious leaders.
