US agrees to lift pause on intelligence sharing and military assistance with Ukraine
The news comes after the U.S. paused all aid for Ukraine, including weapons that are on their way and in Poland, last week.
The United States on Tuesday agreed to lift its pause on intelligence sharing and providing military assistance to Ukraine, during a meeting between the two countries in Saudi Arabia.
The news comes after the U.S. paused all aid for Ukraine, including weapons that are on their way and in Poland, last week following a contentious meeting with President Donald Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last month.
Ukraine also signaled that it was open to a 30-day ceasefire in its war with Russia during the talks.
“Representatives of both nations praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defense of their nation and agreed that now is the time to begin a process toward lasting peace,” the U.S. and Ukraine said in a joint statement, per the New York Times.
Both countries said that no peace deal would be made without Russia's agreement.
“Our hope is that the Russians will say yes, that they will also agree, so the shooting will stop, the killing will stop, the dying will stop, and the talks can begin about how to end this war permanently, in a way that’s acceptable and enduring for both sides," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, according to The Hill.
