Texas AG Ken Paxton hopes Texas will get to go before the SCOTUS regarding immigration laws

Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says that he hopes the Supreme Court of the United States will rule in favor of Texas being able to enforce immigration laws at the border since the federal government won't.

In 2010, Arizona enacted a statute known as S.B. 1070 to "address pressing issues related to the large number of unlawful aliens in the state." In 2012, the Supreme Court ruled that states may not implement their own immigration laws.

Paxton says he disagreed with the ruling and hopes that Texas will have an opportunity to go before the Supreme Court and argue that border states like Texas have the right to enforce their own immigration laws.

"I think the US Supreme Court got that wrong when it was Justice Kennedy writing the decision, because there's no way that we as state should have to sit on the sidelines while the federal government is passing laws and not enforcing any of them," Ken Paxton said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.

According to Paxton, the ruling is unfair to the states because they suffer the consequences of the federal government not enforcing the laws that they made regarding immigration, and it results in thousands of people flooding the border.

"We have laws that we're not enforcing, therefore you states can't have your own laws, and you can't enforce your own laws," Paxton said referring to the federal government. "So you states have to suffer the consequences of all the bad things that are gonna happen because we're not enforcing our laws. That cannot be right."

Paxton says the border patrol agents are overwhelmed with the situation at the border and something needs to be done about it.

"We already are experiencing over 5,000 (migrants) a day," Paxton said. "That's at least under the Biden administration. The numbers have increased over 300% since when Trump came into office. It's overwhelming the Border Patrol, it's overwhelming our border communities, and it's overwhelming our state."
