Jury acquits Hip Hop artist A$AP Rocky in 2021 assault case
Rocky was charged with assault after he got into a fight with a friend from high school on Nov. 6, 2021.
A Los Angeles jury on Tuesday found hip hop artist A$AP Rocky not guilty on both assault charges with a semiautomatic firearm, which stems from an altercation in 2021.
Rocky was charged with assault after he got into a fight with a friend from high school on Nov. 6, 2021, who was part of the creative crew A$AP Mob. The friend, A$AP Relli, said Rocky shot him, and the bullet grazed his knuckles, per CNN.
Rocky's attorneys argued that Relli was filled with “jealousy, lies and greed," which prompted the charges. They also argued the gun was a prop gun that the hip hop star took from the set of a music video, and only fired blanks.
“Thank y’all for saving my life," the rapper told the jury after the verdict. Rocky's partner, the iconic singer Rihanna, was also present for the trial and the verdict. Their two sons also made appearances in the courtroom during the trial.
The verdict comes after a mutual friend of Rocky and Relli argued that Relli had been the aggressor, and that Rocky's shot was meant as a warning. No weapons or casings were officially found on the scene.
