Federal Trade Commission files lawsuit against Uber alleging deceitful billing practices
As of now, Uber has not responded to the lawsuit.
The Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against Uber on Monday, alleging the company participated in deceitful billing practices.
The agency alleges that Uber violated the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act by misleading customers about the company's Uber One subscription service, which provides members with benefits such as savings on rides and food deliveries through Uber Eats.
Uber has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
The FTC claims that Uber didn't give customers enough information about how to cancel their Uber One membership, resulting in them being charged without their consent, according to CNBC News.
“Americans are tired of getting signed up for unwanted subscriptions that seem impossible to cancel,” FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson said in a statement, according to the outlet. “The Trump-Vance FTC is fighting back on behalf of the American people.”
