Nadine Menendez, the wife of former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, was convicted on Monday of accepting bribes as part of a years-long corruption scheme.

The senator was convicted for his role in the scheme last year, on all 16 felony counts of obstruction of justice, bribery, extortion, wire fraud and acting as a foreign agent.

Nadine Menendez was indicted for her role in September 2023, but her trial was delayed because of her breast cancer treatments. The verdict comes after seven hours of jury deliberations, which took place over two days, according to the New York Times.

The case centered on allegations that the pair accepted bribes in exchange for acting to benefit the governments in Egypt and Qatar when Bob Menendez was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Menendez resigned as the chairman when he was indicted, and later resigned as senator after conviction.
