A federal judge on Tuesday temporarily blocked the Trump administration's new order that sought to freeze a slew of federal programs, just minutes before the order was expected to go into effect.

The Trump administration's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a memo on Monday night detailing the plan. The memo was expected to go into effect at 5 p.m. Eastern.

U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan blocked the action Tuesday afternoon, which will continue through Monday, according to The Associated Press.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday clarified that the order would not impact direct assistance like Social Security, Medicare, student loans, and food stamps, but critics have claimed it could impact other state funding like school breakfast and lunch programs and Section 8 rental assistance.

The block comes after Democratic attorneys general in six states announced they would sue the Trump administration to stop the order.

“There is no question this policy is reckless, dangerous, illegal, and unconstitutional,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said, per the New York Post. “This policy will disrupt the lives of millions of Americans in New York and nationwide.”

“What does this pause mean? It means no more funding for illegal DEI programs,” Leavitt said during her first White House press conference earlier Tuesday. “It means no more funding for the Green New Scam that has cost American taxpayers tens of billions of dollars. It means no more funding for transgenderism and wokeness across our federal bureaucracy and agencies, no more funding for Green New Deal social engineering policies.”
