GOP Rep. Nancy Mace is publicly acknowledged that she’s considering 2026 gubernatorial run in home state South Carolina.

Mace has long been rumored to be considering a bid, according to the news site Politico. Sitting Gov. Henry McMaster must leave next year because of state term limits.

Mace told the Associated Press on Wednesday that she's “seriously considering” entering the governor’s race next year, a standard next-step statement by politicians to gauge potential voter and donor responses.

“Trump is going to need people in governor seats in ’26,” Mace told the the wire service. “In ’26, we need people who can win, win big, and implement his agenda, and I will do that.”

Only a few weeks into the 119th Congress, nearly 20 lawmakers are already considering leaving Capitol Hill to run in a statewide race, Politico also reports.

Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs, former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, also this week made his intentions for higher office known.
