Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman is dismissing speculation he will switch to the Republican Party, amid recent efforts to find commmon ground with the GOP-controlled Congress and the incoming Trump administration. 

"That’s amateur hour shit," Fetterman told digital news platform Semafor on Monday.

He also said he would not be like former Sens. Joe Manchin, W.V., or Kyrsten Sinema, Ariz., who ran as Democrats but became Independents while in office.

“It’s not gonna happen,” Fetterman said. “And even if I wanted to do that, that is a rocket sled to Palookaville to try to switch. I would make a pretty bad Republican.”

Fetterman was the first Democratic senator to meet with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago after he was elected president in November 2024.

He is also co-sponsoring the Laken Riley Act, a tough-on-crime bill targeting people illegally in the U.S.
