John McAfee of antivirus software fame found dead in Spanish prison

John McAfee, the figure behind McAfee antivirus computer software, was discovered dead in his jail cell in Spain, a government official informed the Associated Press.

Just hours prior a Spanish court had issued a preliminary ruling in favor of McAfee's extradition to America in connection with tax-related criminal charges, according to the outlet.

Security at the penitentiary attempted to revive McAfee but the facility's medical team eventually certified the man's death, a statement from the regional Catalan government noted.

"A judicial delegation has arrived to investigate the causes of death," the statement said, noting that "Everything points to death by suicide."

The statement did not mention McAfee's name, but discussed a 75-year-old American citizen awaiting extradition to his nation. A Catalan government source confirmed to the outlet that the deceased was McAfee.
