Amazon hit by multiple protests on Black Friday

Retail giant Amazon was targeted by multiple protesters on Black Friday, with the company being picketed by a variety of causes ranging from labor activists to environmental groups.

A multinational coalition of groups that dubs itself “Make Amazon Pay” staged demonstrations in countries around the world with locations including Boston, New York, Dublin, London and elsewhere, according to the group’s website. 

“We are workers and activists divided by geography and our role in the global economy but united in our commitment to Make Amazon Pay fair wages, its taxes and for its impact on the planet,” the group’s website claims. 

The environmental group “Extinction Rebellion,” meanwhile, staged demonstrations at multiple Amazon locations, going so far as to blockade over a dozen distribution centers across the United Kingdom. 

“We are trying to wake people up to reality,” the group wrote on Twitter. “You, we, everyone needs to act now and force governments to act. That requires mass disruption. Civil resistance.”
