IRS warns of new tax refund scam
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is cautioning taxpayers about a new tax refund scam involving a mailing received in a cardboard envelope from a delivery service, containing a letter with the IRS masthead. The letter falsely claims to be related to an unclaimed refund, requests personal information such as a driver's license picture and bank routing details, and exhibits red flags such as unusual wording, punctuation, font mixtures, and inaccurate tax return deadline information. Additionally, the IRS reminds the public that they will never initiate contact via email, text messages, or social media.
