Wisconsin GOP Senate candidate vows to donate salary to charity if elected
U.S. senators receive a $174,000 salary, funded by taxpayers.
Wisconsin GOP Senate candidate Eric Hovde promised in a recent campaign ad that if elected, he would donate his salary to charity.
“I’ve worked hard, been fortunate,” Hovde said in the ad released on Friday, according to The Associated Press. “I don’t need their special interest money, and I won’t take it.”
Hovde's spokesperson told the outlet that the charities are yet to be determined but they will not include his own charity, the Hovde Foundation.
Hovde launched his bid for the Senate last month and if he wins the GOP primary, he will be facing Democrat incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
Some of Hovde's top issues include national security, healthcare and immigration.

“I’m Eric Hovde. I can’t be bought, and I will put you and our country first," the ad concluded, according to The Hill.
Hovde previously ran for the Senate in 2012 at which time his net worth was at least $52 million, according to the AP. He lost that year in the Republican primary to former Gov. Tommy Thompson, who then lost to Baldwin.
