Proposed class-action suit claims Tesla sped up odometers on vehicles
"Tesla Inc. knowingly overstates the distances traveled in Tesla Vehicles, or at minimum tolerates substantial inaccuracy in distances traveled in Tesla Inc.’s favor, such that the 'odometers' in Tesla Vehicles indicate greater distances than what they actually travel," reads the lawsuit.
A proposed class-action lawsuit in California claims Tesla speeds up the odometers in its vehicles so warranty periods end faster.
The owner behind the suit argued that illegally speeding up the odometers encouraged more people to purchase extended warranties.
The owner, Nyree Hinton, claimed that his used Tesla, which he purchased in December of 2022, had odd mileage patterns.
"Tesla Inc. knowingly overstates the distances traveled in Tesla Vehicles, or at minimum tolerates substantial inaccuracy in distances traveled in Tesla Inc.’s favor, such that the 'odometers' in Tesla Vehicles indicate greater distances than what they actually travel," he said in the lawsuit.
"Tesla has thus misled, induced, and defrauded consumers from obtaining the benefits of Tesla Inc.’s warranties," read the lawsuit.
