New Michigan GOP chair sees opportunity for Trump, Republicans in 2024
The "RNC is going to coordinate with us to make that happen... We're gonna fight for every vote all across the state of Michigan," Hoekstra said.
The newly-minted Michigan Republican Party chairman, Pete Hoekstra, on Monday suggested that the GOP could achieve significant gains in the Wolverine State come the 2024 elections, provided the national party provides it with appropriate support.
Hoekstra assumed leadership of party efforts in the critical battleground following the ouster of the previous chair, Kristina Karamo, earlier this month.
"We have eight months to do what normally takes 18 months to do for a presidential cycle. The opportunity is great. You know, the Biden agenda is not very much embraced here in Michigan," Hoekstra said on the "Just the News, No Noise" television show. "It's not embraced or the Gretchen Whitmer agenda, our governor's agenda, is not embraced in the state of Michigan. This is the governor that wants to give $4 billion of taxpayer money to Chinese, Communist Party-affiliated businesses. That doesn't sell.
"People are feeling the effects of inflation, high interest rates. You know, we're gonna do the same thing we did when I co-chaired the president's campaign in 2016. We delivered Michigan to the Trump campaign first time since the Reagan era. And we won the presidency. We're gonna do that again," he pronounced.
He further expressed hope that the Republican National Committee (RNC) would recognize the "performance issue" that prompted Karamo's removal and work with directly to improve GOP prospects.
"I'm hoping that soon the RNC will recognize the efforts that we took to remove Kristina Karamo. Kristina is a fine lady. But it was a performance issue," he said. "And then we're going to focus on what November means. It's about winning, what this means to America and what it means to Michigan. To be successful. We can elect a president. We can elect a senator from what is now an open Senate seat. We can help build the House majority in the House of Representatives and we can take back the State House... by putting forward a very positive agenda that Republicans can unite behind. It will happen. Whatever factions we have... can be pushed aside until after the election and after we elect Donald Trump."
He further indicated that he had spoken with the RNC, asserting that "they're going to come in and they're going to help us in terms of making sure we put the procedures and policies in place that will give us election integrity as much as we can."
"Under the current constitutional framework, in Michigan, there was a constitutional amendment that was passed in the last election, that doesn't enhance election integrity. We've got to we got to work within those rules," Hoekstra added. The "RNC is going to coordinate with us to make that happen... We're gonna fight for every vote all across the state of Michigan."
