Melania Trump promises new administration will 'safeguard the heart of our republic'
Melania Trump acknowledged the responsibility that voters entrusted her family with by electing her husband to a second non-consecutive term in the Oval Office, and expressed hope that the country could move forward together.
Former first lady Melania Trump on Wednesday promised voters that former President Donald Trump's next administration would "safeguard the heart of our republic," when her family returns to the White House in January.
Donald Trump won the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after successfully flipping Wisconsin. He also won the critical swing states of Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Melania Trump acknowledged the responsibility that voters entrusted her family with by electing her husband to a second non-consecutive term in the Oval Office, and expressed hope that the country could move forward together.
"The majority of Americans have entrusted us with this important responsibility. We will safeguard the heart of our republic – freedom," Melania Trump posted on X. "I anticipate the citizens of our nation rejoining in commitment to each other and rising above ideology for the sake of individual liberty, economic prosperity, and security. American energy, skill, and initiative will bring together our best minds to propel our nation forward forevermore."
The comment is rather rare for the former first lady, who has been largely absent on the campaign trail. However, she released a book earlier this year where she came out in support of abortion rights.
Melania Trump has also defended her husband against criticism recently, by denying allegations that he is the next "Adolf Hitler."
“He’s not Hitler, and all of his supporters, [they’re] standing behind him because they want [to] see [the] country successful, and we see how — what kind of support he has," she told "Fox & Friends" last month.
Vice President Kamala Harris was one of a number of Democrats who pushed the comparison between Trump and Hitler, but conceded the election on Wednesday afternoon.
