The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Tuesday rose more than 500 points, boosted by record retail and food services sales numbers, positive news about a possible coronavirus treatment and the potential of a Trump administration stimulus proposal.

The Dow's move marked the index's third-straight-day of gains, following Thursday's 1,800-point selloff.

Markets reacted Tuesday to news that retail and food services sales increased 17.7% in May, the largest monthly increase on record.

Trial results indicated that a drug called dexamethasone may be useful in treating very sick COVID-19 patients, according to CNBC. The outlet also noted that Bloomberg News reported that the Trump administration is working on an infrastructure proposal.
