Midwest given the middle finger by Dems based on Iowa caucus decision, according to Iowa GOP Senator
President Joe Biden encouraged the change to make South Carolina first because it would better reflect the diversity of the country.
Iowa GOP Sen. Joni Ernst said that Midwesterners in the U.S. were recently given the "middle finger" by the Democratic National Committee when they voted to move the first-in-the-nation state in the presidential sweepstakes from Iowa to South Carolina.
During an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Ernst said that she was disappointed in the DNC's decision to remove Iowa's caucus as the party's first contest in 2024.
"We have seen a number of pushes in the past to change this," Ernst told host Shannon Bream during the interview. "I'm glad that Republicans are staying the course. I feel Democrats have really given Middle America the middle finger."
President Joe Biden encouraged the change to make South Carolina first because it would better reflect the diversity of the country.
"Too often over the past 50 years, candidates have dropped out or had their candidacies marginalized by the press and pundits because of poor performances in small states early in the process before voters of color cast a vote," Biden said, according to The Hill.
The current president has often urged the DNC to move to primaries instead of caucuses, arguing that caucuses are "inherently anti-participatory."
