House Speaker Johnson predicts GOP will ultimately hold House majority with key races outstanding
Johnson also says he would be elected as speaker again.
House Speaker Mike Johnson predicted that the GOP will hold its majority in the House of Representatives with key races, particularly in California, still too close to call.
"We've been working for a year ... preparing this playbook that we'll talk about all the time for the next Congress," Johnson told Axios as election results came in on Tuesday.
Johnson also said he would be elected as speaker again.
"So if we're going to ... run those plays and execute them with precision, you got to keep the quarterback on the field and keep the same team," he also said.
Behind the scenes, House GOP campaign aides are reportedly confident the GOP will stay in control of the chamber.
“We’re going to hold the House,” a senior GOP campaign official said on Wednesday, according to CNN. “The question is about what the size of the majority is right now.”
