California Democrat concedes tight House race, securing win for Republican John Duarte
Duarte won California's 13th Congressional District by less than 600 votes.
California Democrat Adam Gray conceded a tight congressional race to Republican John Duarte, giving the GOP a projected 221 seats in the House next year with one Colorado race still undecided.
The state's 13 Congressional District race had no incumbent because it was formed through a once-a-decade redistricting process. The district runs through a stretch of Central Valley farmland and has more registered Democrats than Republicans, according to the Modesto Bee newspaper.
"While I had hoped for a different outcome, I accept the results and have called to congratulate my opponent," Gray said Friday evening. "This was one of the closest races in the country."
Duarte won by less than 600 votes, according to The Associated Press.
"I promised our Valley families that I would be their bipartisan champion in Washington, D.C. by fighting for food on our tables, gas in our tanks, and water on our farms. That is exactly what I am going to go there to do," Duarte said, the wire service also reported.
Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert's bid for reelection is the only midterm race yet to be called by the wire service. She leads Democrat Adam Frisch, who conceded the election last month, by just over 550 votes as the race goes to a recount.
