Trump wants to know 'within a week' about GOP North Carolina convention

President Trump on Tuesday said that North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper needs to announce soon whether coronavirus restrictions will impact the Republican National Convention slated to take place in the state this August.

When pressed about exactly how soon he wants the Democratic governor's decision, Trump said he wants to know "within a week" whether the event will face restrictions, particularly whether the arena is Raleigh will have capacity restrictions.

In a Twitter thread Monday, the president said that he does not want to hold the convention in North Carolina if the governor does not provide assurances that the facility will be allowed to operate at full capacity.

The president on Tuesday reiterated his concern about moving forward with costly convention preparations if the restrictions might impact the event.

"I don't want to have it where we get there and then they announce after all the money was spent, all the work was done, all the people travel in, guess what, you can't put anybody in the arena, or you can put a tiny number of people in the arena," Trump said.
