Trump arrives in NC first stop in tour of US natural disasters, says state treated 'very unfairly'
Trump in the past has said that North Carolina “has been abandoned by the Democrats” following Hurricane Helene.
President Donald Trump arrived Friday morning in North Carolina in his first tour as president of recent natural disasters across the country –criticizing Democrats of having having failed in recovery efforts from recent hurricanes.
"North Carolina was very unfairly treated," Trump said during a press conference in the hard-hit city of Asheville, in the western part of the state before he began surveying the damage and recovery.
Trump said during the press conference that many people in the state still don't have power or plumbing from the hurricane.
"North Carolina's going to come back bigger, better [and] stronger than ever before," Trump said when discussing recovery efforts.
Trump will then travel to Southern California to tour the devastation from the recent and ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles County area.
Trump has criticized Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom's leadership during the wildfires, specifically the water management.
“We’re going to be demanding that the water be released from the north into the lower parts of California,” he said during a phone interview with NBC News.
Newsom is expected to greet Trump when he arrives by plane, but there are no reports that they will tour the devastation. Trump will later travel to Las Vegas for a weekend rally.
