President Trump on Tuesday night snubbed his former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, issuing a full-throated endorsement of former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville in the GOP runoff for an Alabama Senate seat.

In a tweet, Trump described Tuberville as "a winner" and "a REAL LEADER who will never let MAGA/KAG, or our Country, down!"

During his tenure as Trump's attorney general, Sessions frequently found himself the target of the president's wrath because he had recused himself from the Russia investigation. But during his Senate campaign Sessions has continued to align himself with the president's agenda.

Trump's endorsement of Tuberville could have a significant impact on Sessions' bid to reclaim his old Senate seat. The winner of the March 31 runoff will advance to challenge Democratic Sen. Doug Jones, widely viewed as one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the fall election.
